Since I was a little girl, science has always been a part of my life. Due to my mom being sick, I’d constantly take my mom to the hospital and made sure she’d take her medicine or oversee her operations. I started fearing at the age of eight that I would lose my mom at a young age. However, my mom is strong. She’s my superhero and whatever sickness comes her way, she fights and overcomes it. This inspired me to want to study and go within the field of science. What interests me about science is how it studies life, living organisms, you’re able to do exciting labs, and there’s significant room for exploring. In our everyday life, there’s science everywhere. For instance, in our food, transportation, medicine, and much more.
I hope by the end of 2023 of May, I will receive my degree in Biology and Psychology. Psychology has always been a passion of mine. It never fails to interest me and means a lot more because I come from a community where mental health is not taken seriously. Studying and pursuing Psychology will help me teach people within my community the importance of mental health and also change rooted traditions.
As for Biology, it took me a while to finally decide to major in Biology. Why? Well first off, science wasn’t really my strongest subject in high school. I would pass the class and exams, however, I struggled constantly and I didn’t want to accept that fact I was struggling. I always want to promote myself and sell myself so I can end with a good note. For instance, my chemistry regents. I struggled a lot with chemistry but I did constantly study and try with the material. I thought I worked really hard and studied very hard. However, when it came to the exam, it felt as if everything left my body. I lost all hope until I started believing in myself. I retook the regent but this time, I believed in myself and only thought positively. The outcome? I passed and I went up 20 points. From there I told myself, science may not be my best subject but I can definitely try and do it.
